Do this today

Find your main water shutoff before you need it, and make sure the valve actually turns. In most Middle Tennessee homes it is where the supply enters: a crawlspace, a utility closet, or at the meter. Five minutes today; possibly thousands of dollars on the day something lets go.

And check the date on your water heater label. Tanks last roughly ten to fifteen years and rarely fail gracefully. If yours is over ten and sits above finished space, replacing it costs less than the cleanup.
